Pro tip: skip the store-bought stucco patch mix

I spent 40 bucks on a bucket of pre-mixed stucco patch from Lowe's and it cracked within a week on my driveway wall in the North Valley. Mixed my own sand and Portland cement at a 3:1 ratio with just water and it held up through two monsoon storms without a single hairline crack. Has anyone else had better luck with the DIY mix or am I just getting bad batches?

Did you use any kind of bonding agent before you put the DIY mix on? I had the exact same problems with the store-bought stuff, it flaked off my garage wall after one hot summer. I mixed my own with a little extra Portland and it’s been solid for over a year now, even with the freeze-thaw we get here. The pre-made batches just seem too watery or have too much filler in them, I swear they cut corners.
