PSA: My old way of sealing windows was a total waste of money
For years I just bought whatever caulk was on sale at the Home Depot on Coors, but my windows still leaked dust and cold air every spring. After a really bad dust storm last month, I finally tried the specific DAP Dynaflex 230 that a contractor friend recommended. The difference is huge, my house near UNM is way quieter and my electric bill dropped about $30 last month. Has anyone else found a specific product that actually works for our crazy weather here?

Man, my old method was just taping up trash bags over the windows. Looked like a biohazard zone but felt like a wind tunnel anyway.

Biohazard zone" seems a bit much, was it really that bad?

Oh absolutely, it can get that bad. @the_james isn't kidding about the trash bag look, my place looked like a serial killer's basement for a whole winter. The real biohazard was probably the mold from all the damp air getting trapped in there anyway. You do what you gotta do when the draft hits, even if it means your home looks condemned. Honestly, the wind tunnel feeling is worse than the weird looks from the neighbors.
