Shoutout to the guy at the Ace on Juan Tabo who saved my swamp cooler mess
Last Saturday I finally climbed up on the roof to fire up the swamp cooler for the season and of course the water line was cracked from the winter freeze. I turned the valve on anyway like a dummy and water started spraying everywhere, plus it was running down the side of the house and pooling near the foundation. I shut it off and ran down to the Ace on Juan Tabo with a wet shirt and a bad attitude, and the guy in the plumbing aisle walked me through swapping the line and adding a little shutoff valve so I can drain it every fall. Cost me about $23 in parts and maybe 40 minutes of work, way less than the $180 a company quoted me to come out. The trick he showed me was wrapping the new line with foam pipe wrap and tilting the whole thing so it drains toward the roof edge, not the wall. Anyone else up here in the heights dealing with cracked cooler lines every spring, or is it just my bad luck?
