The Lowes guy in plumbing saved me $200 on a water heater install

Was at the Lowes on Coors last weekend and the older guy in plumbing told me to just get a flex line kit instead of hard piping everything, said I was overcomplicating it. Has anyone else had a store employee actually talk them out of spending more money?

Did the guy actually show you the difference in labor time too? I had something similar happen at the Home Depot in Rio Rancho a couple years back... the guy in electrical talked me out of buying a whole new breaker panel and just pointed out I needed a new main breaker instead. Saved me like $300 and a weekend of work. Those older guys who've been doing this forever know all the little tricks that make things way simpler. They've seen so many people come in overcomplicating stuff they just tell it like it is. Now I always try to find the oldest employee in whatever department I need help in.
