TIL my neighbor's 'just needs a patch' roof leak was hiding 4 layers of old shingles

Last month my neighbor asked me to help with a small leak near his chimney. Said it just needed a quick patch. I peeled back one shingle and found three more layers underneath from the 80s. Then he told me his dad put the last layer on in 1992 and 'it's been fine.' Does anybody else run into homeowners who treat roof layers like an archaeological dig?

Found three layers of Christmas lights tangled in my attic last week.

The trick that worked for me was wrapping them around a piece of cardboard before storing. I cut a big rectangle out of an old moving box, then just rolled the lights around it like a spool. Now when I pull them out they don't tangle at all. Made a huge difference for me.
