TIL that two coats of primer on new drywall is a myth in this climate

I was bitching about my tape lines to the guy at Kelly Moore and he said the 10% humidity here makes the first coat flash off so fast it never bonds, so now I do one pass with a damp sponge before the second coat and my corners in the South Valley finally look clean, anyone else adjust their mud work for our dry air?

You're really telling me the humidity in the South Valley is ruining your mud work? I've done plenty of patches in this dry air and just sanded a little extra. The damp sponge trick sounds like extra steps for the same result you'd get from just adding a splash of water to your second coat. Maybe your mud was too stiff or you're being too picky about tape lines. Half the time people blame the climate when really it's just their technique.
