Watch out for the wrong kind of insulation for our climate
I just finished a big attic project and made a costly mistake. I saw a good deal on some spray foam insulation kits online and thought I'd save money by doing it myself. I spent about $600 on the materials and a whole weekend up there in the heat. The problem is, that type of foam is not right for our dry, hot Albuquerque summers. It started to pull away from the roof decking after just a few months, creating gaps. My AC bills this past July were almost $50 higher than last year because all that cool air is just leaking out. I should have listened to the local guy at Builders Source who told me to use blown-in cellulose instead. Now I have to pay someone to remove it and do the job over. Has anyone else here had to fix a bad DIY insulation job? What did it end up costing you?

My buddy in Phoenix paid over two grand to fix a similar spray foam mess.

That Phoenix heat probably made it way worse than most places.

Two grand... leep89 is right, that heat is a killer.
