Can we talk about finding out your phone's weather app tracks your location every 30 minutes, even when closed?

I read this in the app's privacy policy details last night and now I can't stop thinking about what else might be running in the background without me knowing, am I overthinking how much data gets collected?

Oh great, so my phone is basically a tiny private investigator now, just sitting in my pocket logging my every move. I guess if I ever go missing, at least the weather app can tell them I was within a 30 minute radius of my couch.

My friend had a similar scare with her fitness app. She found out it was logging her entire route history, even on days she didn't open it. Makes you wonder what's really going on with all these apps.
