I finally listened to my boss about how I write email subject lines
My manager at the accounting firm in Cleveland told me my subject lines were too vague. Things like "Quick question" or "Invoice update" weren't helping anyone prioritize. After she showed me a specific example where I wrote "Follow up on Smith file - urgent by 3 PM Friday" and got a response in 10 minutes, I started putting dates and action words in every single subject line. Has anyone else had a small piece of feedback that totally changed a routine habit like this?

Oh wow, "Quick question" - might as well just write "Please ignore this" and save everyone the trouble.

Hold up wait. You mean to tell me you were just writing "Quick question" as a subject line this whole time? That is wild to me. I used to do the exact same thing and my emails would sit in peoples inboxes for days. Putting the deadline and a specific action word right in the subject line sounds like such a small change but it makes a massive difference. It forces you to actually think about what you need before you even type the email body.
