I just realized I've been pronouncing 'gyro' wrong my whole life
I was at the Greek place on 5th Street yesterday and ordered a 'jy-ro' sandwich. The guy behind the counter, named Theo, just smiled and said, 'One yee-ro coming up.' It hit me right then that I've been saying it wrong for years, probably since I first saw one on a menu in college. Has anyone else had a moment like this with a common word or food?

Happened to me with "bruschetta." Said "brew-shet-uh" for YEARS before an Italian waiter gave me a kind smile and said "broo-sket-ah." Felt my soul leave my body.

Isn't it funny how we all just agree to say words wrong until someone corrects us? I see this with place names all the time. People will say a nearby town's name incorrectly for years because everyone around them does. It creates this little bubble where the wrong way sounds right. Then you travel ten miles away and realize you've been the odd one out the whole time. It makes you wonder what else we're all quietly getting wrong together.

Wait, you didn't know it was broo-sket-ah, like parkermorgan's whole bubble thing?
