Is it just me or does everyone actually hate going out to eat but won't say it?
I had a conversation with my neighbor Dave last weekend while we were both grilling. He said most people only go to restaurants because they feel obligated not because the food is actually better than home cooking. That hit different for me because I've been forcing myself to enjoy fancy dinners out for years spending $60 a pop when I'd rather just eat a burger in my backyard. Has anyone else realized they're just going through the motions at restaurants?

Is it just me or is this the same weird pressure we put on ourselves with everything from holiday parties to fancy coffee orders? We're all walking around pretending to enjoy stuff we secretly can't stand because we think everyone else is having a great time.

You said "pretending to enjoy stuff we secretly can't stand" and that hit me hard. But here's the thing nobody talks about. Some of us actually do enjoy the simple ritual of it, even if the coffee itself is overpriced. It's not always about the drink, sometimes it's the five minutes of quiet before the world demands something from you again. Maybe the real lie is convincing ourselves we're doing it for the taste when it's really just a permission slip to pause for a second.
