I've been pronouncing 'gyro' wrong for years and a cashier in Chicago just stared at me

Ordered lunch today and asked for a 'guy-ro' sandwich. The guy at the counter just paused for a solid five seconds and said, 'You mean the yeero?' I've been saying it that way since college, about eight years now. I'm now replaying every single time I've ever said it out loud, including that work lunch last week. Am I overthinking how many people quietly judged me, or should I just accept my new reality?
