Just realized I've been rereading my sent texts for years and it's costing me sleep, not friendships
For about 4 years now I've had this habit where after I send a text to a friend, I go back and read it like 5 or 6 times over the next hour, hunting for some tone that could get taken badly. Nothing ever came of it either, nobody ever said my text read cold or rude, but I kept doing it anyway. Last month my buddy Marcus sent me a screenshot of a group chat I was in and I saw my own message sitting there, totally normal, and I felt this weird relief, like oh, that's how it actually landed. Then he mentioned he never rereads his texts at all and I sat with that for a couple days. Now I send it and I put the phone face down on the counter, and if I feel the pull I go do something with my hands for a minute. Two weeks in and I'm going to bed maybe 20 minutes earlier, which adds up on a night shift schedule. Has anyone else caught themselves rereading messages and found a trick that actually kills the urge?
