My friend in Denver said my text reply was 'too much' after I spent an hour on it...

We were just planning a casual hike for this weekend, and I sent a long message with three different trail options, weather thoughts, and a backup plan. She replied right away with 'lol that's a lot, just pick one.' It happened over text last Thursday. I keep going over that whole chat, wondering if I made a simple thing weird. Does anyone else get stuck writing simple messages?

I mean, the_oliver nailed it with that "brain fills in the blanks" thing. It's like, texting has become this weird performance where you're supposed to be casual but also clear, and there's no rulebook. What you did makes total sense to me because we all want to be helpful and not have the other person get lost or annoyed. But it's like the entire way we communicate now is built on this unspoken pressure to be perfect. Sometimes I wonder if the real problem isn't overthinking a single text, but just how fast and informal everything has gotten. We're all trying to read minds through a screen, and it's exhausting.

Why are you overthinking a text?

Because it's a text, anna567... that's the whole point. You can't hear a tone or see a face, so your brain fills in the blanks. And my brain always picks the worst possible option. It's not overthinking, it's just trying to solve a puzzle with half the pieces missing.
