My kid said 'the quiet part out loud' about a birthday party and now I'm stuck on it
I was picking up my son from school yesterday and heard another parent say, 'We're only inviting the kids from the soccer team this year, it's getting too big.' My son, who's eight, asked me right after if that meant his friend Leo wasn't coming because he doesn't play. Now I'm wondering if I should say something to the other parent or if that's just how parties are now. Has anyone else had to navigate this kind of awkward social rule change?

Did you consider just telling the other parent what your son overheard, unlike the drama @charlie_schmidt mentioned?

Honestly that's the first thing I did. I just called the other mom and said "hey, my kid overheard this, wanted to give you a heads up." It was a two minute chat, no big deal. Way better than letting it turn into some weird gossip thing. People forget that a simple, direct conversation fixes like 90% of this stuff. Saves everyone a ton of stress.

Did you see that article about how party invites are causing parent drama now?
