My sister told me I was "doing too much" before every hangout, and it made me rethink my whole routine
About a year ago my sister came over for lunch at my place in Sacramento and I had spent the morning cleaning, making a playlist, and planning three backup activities in case the food place was too crowded. She looked at me and said, "You know we're just eating sandwiches, right?" At first I got a little mad, because I thought she was saying I was trying too hard. But she wasn't wrong. I used to spend the whole day leading up to any get-together checking texts, re-reading the plan, and worrying about parking and timing. So I tried something simple. The next time a friend came by, I picked one thing to do and left the rest alone. It felt weird and a little lazy at first. Turns out nobody noticed or cared that I didn't have a backup plan. Now I catch myself going down the same road and I have to stop and ask if it actually matters. Has anyone else been told they overplan small stuff like this, and did cutting back actually stick for you or did you slip back into old habits?
