Overheard a guy at the dog park say his golden retriever 'just gets him' and I can't stop thinking about it

I was picking up after my terrier mix last Tuesday when this man said to his friend that his dog understands his moods better than his wife of 12 years. Made me wonder if I'm the only one who's ever felt jealous of a dog's ability to just exist without overthinking everything. Has anyone else had a random comment from a stranger stick in your head way longer than it should?

See it differently honestly. Dogs don't have to pay bills or deal with your in-laws or remember your anniversary. Of course a dog "gets you" when all you do together is walk around and throw a ball. That guy at the dog park probably never had to figure out how to support his wife through a miscarriage or a job loss or her dad getting sick. Dogs are great but comparing them to a 12 year marriage is just lazy.

Take how we take simple stuff for granted way too often, you know?
