Rant: my buddy in Phoenix told me to stop recharging my AC every spring and just find the leak
For four summers I kept dumping a can of refrigerant into my truck every May. My buddy Dave, who runs a shop in Phoenix, kept saying the leak is small enough to find, stop guessing and get a UV dye kit. I blew him off for two more years because a $30 can felt easier than a weekend under the hood. Then in July my compressor started short cycling on the way to a job in Mesa and the whole system quit at 112 degrees outside. The dye showed a pinhole in the low side line that had been weeping since I bought the truck. Fixing it cost me $140 in parts and a Saturday. Four years of cans cost way more than that. So was Dave right and I was just lazy, or is recharging every year actually fine for some of you?
