Three years ago my buddy Mark showed me his late 90s email archive
Last week I dug up my own old emails from 2008 and spent an hour just reading how I used to write full paragraphs without shortcuts. Has anyone else ever caught themselves missing the way we talked back then or is this just me getting old?

Honestly, my buddy Dave found his old MySpace messages from 2007 and it was like reading a whole different language. He showed me how he'd write these little novellas about his day, proper punctuation and everything, before he just started typing "lol" and "brb" like the rest of us. Ngl, I felt a little jealous reading that, like people actually put effort into talking back then. Tbh, it wasn't just the words but the way they actually sounded like a real conversation, not just a quick text. It kind of made me realize how much we've all gotten used to just saying the bare minimum now.

Nah, I kinda liked it better when texts were just quick and straight to the point.

I remember finding an old AIM chat log from 2005 where I was having a 45 minute conversation with a girl about what kind of pizza toppings we liked, and it was like 50 messages each way with full sentences and everything. It felt kinda nice to see how we actually took the time to type things out and ask real questions instead of just sending "k" or a thumbs up emoji. But honestly, I think we traded that effort for speed and convenience, and now nobody has the patience for a long message unless it's a group chat. Makes me wonder if people will look back at our current texts in 15 years and think we were lazy or something, you know?
