Walked through Pike Place Market and noticed something about the fish throwers

I always thought the fish throwing was just a tourist gimmick, but I watched them for about 20 minutes last Saturday. They didn't drop a single fish and the whole crew moved like they'd been doing it for years. It made me realize there's actually a system and training behind the show, not just random fun. Has anyone else watched something tourists do and changed your mind about how much work goes into it?

Honestly, I had the same kind of moment but with something totally different. I used to roll my eyes at those glass blowing demos in touristy shopping areas, thought it was just a show to sell stuff. Then I watched a guy sculpt a vase from a hot blob and realized he was controlling every bubble and curve perfectly. It was hypnotic and I felt bad for assuming it was easy or fake. Tbh, it's humbling to watch people who have truly mastered something, even if it seems simple to outsiders. Ngl, it made me want to sign up for a class just to see how hard it really is.

Yeah it's wild how we write off stuff as "easy" or "gimmicky" without realizing the years of practice behind it. I see it all the time with people who watch bakers decorate cakes or watch mechanics fix a car in five minutes and assume it's no big deal. But then you try it yourself and suddenly you're covered in flour or you've stripped a bolt and you get a whole new respect for the skill. It's like we've gotten so used to seeing the finished product that we forget the grind and failure that went into it.
