Finally gave in and tried those Route delivery protection upsells for my shop
I always skipped the Route protection when people ordered from my Etsy store, figured it was just a money grab. Then last month a $150 custom sign got smashed in transit and I had to eat the whole cost out of pocket. That one loss was more than what I would've paid for Route fees over the whole year, so now I just tack it on automatically. Anyone else had a shipment disaster that changed their mind about insurance?

Wait, isn't that what the shipping carrier is supposed to cover if you buy insurance through them? I still don't get why Route gets a cut when USPS or UPS already offers declared value coverage for way less. I mean, I get that you got burned bad and that sucks, but Route feels like a middleman taking a percentage off something the post office already does. They make it sound like it's the only option when really you just have to ask for insurance from the carrier at checkout. Plus half the time when I've tried to file a claim with Route it was a pain in the neck and they tried to give me store credit instead of cash back. So I guess I'm the weirdo who still thinks it's a money grab, even after getting screwed on a few lost packages myself.

Honestly, "money grab" is exactly the right term for it. Reading you say they gave you store credit instead of cash back, that's just wild to me, @schmidt.grace. I can't believe they tried to pull that on top of everything else.
