Got a rude wake-up call about my business website after a customer couldn't find me

I run a small pressure washing business here in Amarillo and for 2 years I thought my Facebook page was all I needed. Then last month a lady called me up and said she drove around for 20 minutes looking for my address because I never put it on my page. She was ready to hire someone else but her neighbor had my card. That's when it hit me that I wasn't even listed on Google Maps or Yelp or anything. I sat down that weekend and set up a free Google Business profile and put my actual street address and phone number on it. Now I'm getting calls from people who just searched 'pressure washing Amarillo' and found me easy. Has anyone else had a similar moment where you realized you were invisible online and fixed it?

My dog ate half my business cards once. Had to start fresh too.

At least your dog had good taste in paper stock. Mine just ate a sock and threw it up on my new rug. But I guess a dog eating business cards is basically the universe telling you those contacts weren't meant to last. Did you at least get a funny story out of it when you handed people the slightly chewed ones? Because that's the only way that turns into a net positive. I'd be more mad about the waste of money than the dog's internal opinions on my networking strategy.
