Heard a customer at the feed store talking about their new website

I was picking up some supplies over at the Amarillo Feed and Seed on Bell last Tuesday, and this older gentleman was telling the cashier he just paid a guy $1,200 for a new website. He said it looked nice but he hasn't gotten a single call from it in two months. It got me thinking, are we all just throwing money at online stuff without a real plan? How do you know if your website is actually working for your business here in town?

Did he ask the guy who built it how people would actually find the site?

Been there. @sageallen is right to ask. You build a site and then realize no one knows it exists. I've seen people spend months on a perfect site, then just hope Google finds it. You need to tell people about it. Share the link on your social media, ask friends to check it out, maybe even run a small ad. If you don't push it out, it just sits there like a billboard in the woods.
