Hit $50,000 in annual revenue from my shop and it hit different than I expected

I've been running my little auto shop here in Amarillo for about 4 years now and this year I finally crossed the $50k mark in total revenue. It's not huge compared to some places but for a one-man operation working out of a rented bay, it felt like a big deal. What surprised me most is how much of that went straight back into tools and parts instead of my pocket lol. Has anyone else hit a milestone like that and realized the money doesn't go as far as you thought?

Oh man, that revenue hit is a weird one for sure. Grats on hitting it though. But yeah, the money gets eaten up fast. How much of that 50k was actually profit after you paid yourself a wage and covered all the overhead like rent and insurance? I'm guessing the real number is a lot smaller than it feels like it should be.

Has anyone else noticed how the numbers we chase in business (or even just life goals) kinda warp our sense of reality? Like, you hit that 50k mark and your brain does a little victory dance, but then the tax guy and the landlord show up for their cut. It's the same with getting a raise at work - you think "yay, more money," but then your lifestyle creeps up to meet it, you know? I swear, the bigger the number gets, the more it just feels like survival mode with a nicer view. The overhead is always hungry, and it never feels like the profit lines up with the effort you put in.
