I finally went back to that corner grocery from my childhood
Mr. Henderson ran it, and he knew all our names. Now it's a chain mini-mart with self-checkout. I miss the handwritten price tags and local farm produce. It's faster now, but not as friendly. Makes me think about the shift in our local spots.

Saw a piece about how those handwritten price tags were a real community thing.

That shift from a place that knew your name to a self-checkout lane is so real. Mila's right about those handwritten tags, they made it feel personal, like someone actually picked those apples for you. It's hard to watch those little spots that held so many memories just fade away.
