I was running my shop's social media like a big city brand for two years before a customer's comment in my store last week made it click.

What did they say?

Wait, did that customer basically tell you your feed looked like it was trying too hard? Because the same thing happened to me. I was posting these super polished product shots for my shop, like every single item was art directed. Then a regular came in and straight up said "your Instagram looks like a magazine that would never come to our town." Ouch. Swapped to phone pics of messy shelves and my stupid dog sleeping in the window. Engagement actually went up, not down. Sometimes authenticity is just admitting you're not a pro photographer.

Had the same thing happen with my bakery's Instagram. Kept posting these perfect styled shots and a regular told me it looked too fancy to be affordable. Switched to showing the messy kitchen, the bakers laughing, even the occasional burnt batch. Engagement tripled because people finally saw the real place behind the photos.
