That one Tuesday in March where I actually made money instead of losing it
I run a small BBQ pop-up on the weekends out of a food truck in Amarillo. Last March, I had a Tuesday where I dragged my smoker out at 5 AM just to test a new rub, not even planning to sell anything. By 9 AM, a group of construction guys from down the street smelled the smoke and asked to buy sandwiches, then their whole crew showed up at lunch. I sold 42 pulled pork sandwiches in about 3 hours and cleared close to $400 on a day I was supposed to be off. Has anyone else ever had a random day like that where customers just showed up out of nowhere?

That "construction guys from down the street smelled the smoke" bit is exactly how the best business works. It's like when you finally clean your garage and suddenly three neighbors ask to borrow your tools. People don't plan to buy stuff, they just react to what's in front of them. Your Tuesday proves that half the time, the money comes when you least expect it. It's the same reason gas stations near empty highways do better than ones in busy towns sometimes. Random demand is real, it just shows up when you're not trying to force it.

That piece by Morgan915 about people just reacting to what's in front of them reminded me of something I read in a book called "The Pumpkin Plan" where a guy grew his business just by people smelling his pies from outside. Your Tuesday sounds exactly like that theory in action, where the construction crew didn't plan on BBQ but their noses made the decision for them. Random demand like that is wild but real, and it always seems to hit when you're least expecting it.
