The day I realized my invoices were scaring people off
I used to send out these super formal invoices with a bunch of legal jargon and tiny print. Thought it made me look professional. Then last spring a regular customer called me up and said she almost didn't pay because she thought she was being sued for something. She was joking but it hit me. I spent that weekend redesigning my whole invoice template. Made it friendly, short, and clear with a big bold total at the bottom. Payment started coming in way faster after that. Anyone else ever accidentally scare their clients with paperwork?

Oh yeah, my friend Jen runs a small bookkeeping biz and she used to put this super thick terms sheet in with every invoice. One client actually asked her if she was trying to hide extra fees in there. She switched to a one page simple invoice with a smiley face and her dog's paw print at the bottom. Payments came in like twice as fast.
