Took a banker's advice about invoicing, wish I hadn't waited 6 months

My old boss at the feed store in Canyon always said to bill on the 1st and 15th, no exceptions, or you'll chase money forever. I ignored that for about 6 months with my side trucking gig and had 4 clients string me along past 60 days. Finally switched to sending invoices the morning after every job, like he said, and my outstanding balance dropped from $2,300 to under $400. Has anyone else had to learn the hard way that getting paid fast is more about your own habits than the customer?
