Why I stopped trusting the 'local SEO guarantee' crowd

A few months back I paid a guy in Amarillo $350 a month to get my clinic on the first page of Google. He promised results in 6 weeks and all I got was a bunch of fake reviews and a warning from Google. I was ready to write off all SEO folks as scammers, but then a friend at the Chamber pointed me to a lady who actually explained what she was doing and showed me real progress on my own dashboard. She got me ranking for “dental cleaning in Amarillo” within 8 weeks, and now I’m paying her $200 a month instead. Has anyone else had a bad experience with those cookie-cutter agencies that just spam directories?

Isn't it funny how the same shortcut mentality that makes people buy those "get rich quick" courses is exactly what fuels these spammy SEO guys? Reminds me of the guy at the gym who promises you'll look like a bodybuilder in a month if you just buy his shakes.
