A coworker's throwaway comment about subbed Isekai made me rethink my whole watchlist

Last Friday I was shooting the breeze with a guy on another crew, not really about anime, more about what we were doing over the weekend. He said he binged three isekai shows in a row and called them 'comfort food, not art.' I laughed it off at first, but then I kept thinking about it during my lunch break. I've spent maybe the last 4 months chasing shows that everyone hypes up, trying to catch every hidden meaning and clever twist. But the stuff I actually finish and rewatch is the dumb, predictable ones where the hero just levels up and eats a good meal. That comment made me realize I was treating my hobby like a job, like I had to justify every season with a deep analysis or something. Now I'm going back to a show I watched back in 2019 that's nothing but power fantasy and it's way more fun. Has anyone else felt like they were forcing themselves to like 'serious' anime when the silly ones are what actually stick?}
