A friend told me my anime reviews were missing the point
I posted a long review of 'Vinland Saga' last month, focusing only on the fight scenes and animation quality. A friend messaged me and said, 'You're just listing cool moments. What about the themes of violence and peace?' That really stuck with me. For the last two weeks, I've tried to write about the ideas in a show, not just what happens. I just finished 'Monster' and wrote about the moral questions instead of the plot twists. It feels like a better way to talk about why a show matters. Has anyone else had a piece of feedback that changed how they watch or talk about anime?

Ever have that friend who just gets it? My buddy used to only talk about how "hype" the fights in Attack on Titan were. Then someone asked him what he thought the walls really meant. Totally changed his whole vibe when he talks about shows now.

Watching people overthink cartoons always makes me laugh. Sure the walls in AoT are a cool idea, but sometimes a fight scene is just a fight scene, you know? Your buddy sounds like he's trying too hard now, kim_martin.
