Hot take: I don't get why everyone loves the tournament arcs in anime

It took me like six months of watching different shows to finally admit I just don't care for them. The last one I sat through was the Chimera Ant arc in Hunter x Hunter and it felt like 20 episodes of characters just standing around talking. Is there something I'm missing or do other people get bored of these too?

Buddy, you're making me feel personally attacked because I'm literally the guy who fell asleep during the Chunin Exams twice. lol. The last tournament arc I actually enjoyed was the one from the first season of Blood Blockade Battlefront, and even then I think it was just because the show was so insane. Chimera Ant arc was rough for me too, I kept waiting for something to happen and then the narrator would explain everyone's inner thoughts for three episodes straight. Maybe we're just not built for the "power up and stare at your opponent" genre.
