I was getting lost in the endless 'best anime' threads until I tried a simple sorting trick
For months, I'd open any big discussion thread about top shows and just feel overwhelmed. There were hundreds of replies, and it was impossible to tell which opinions were from people who had actually seen a lot of anime versus someone who had only watched two shows. Last week, I got fed up. I started looking at the user profiles of the people posting the most detailed replies. If someone had a long list of shows in their 'watched' list on a site like AniList, I gave their opinion more weight. It sounds simple, but it changed everything. Suddenly, I could spot the real veterans in the crowd. I found three users who had seen over 400 shows each, and their picks were way more interesting than the usual top ten list. It made the whole forum way more useful for finding my next watch. Has anyone else found a good way to filter out the noise in those giant recommendation threads?

Check their post history for old threads. People who gave good advice years ago usually still know their stuff now. It cuts through the hype around whatever is new this season.

Gotta agree with both of you here. Someone who was giving solid advice on, say, soil health for tomatoes three years ago? That stuff hasn't changed, so they're still worth listening to on that. But I've also seen people who were all about a specific pest control method in 2021 that's now outdated because the bugs got resistant. Maybe check their history for a mix of old and recent posts. If they're still active and talking about what's working now, great. But if all their good advice is from four years ago and they haven't posted since, idk, I'd be a little cautious.

Yeah diana155, the part about "good advice years ago" is where I get stuck. Things change fast now, what worked even three seasons back might be a total miss today. I've seen people stuck in old methods because they only trust the old guard, and they miss out on what's actually working right now. Checking post history is fine, but it shouldn't be the only test. Sometimes the person asking fresh questions this season has better current info.
