Paid $16 for a single anime figure at a con in Denver, and the paint job was so bad it made me rethink blind boxes
The seam on the arm was visible from across the table and one eye was printed a full millimeter off center. I've been buying these things for years and never returned one, but this time I walked back and asked for my money. Do you open blind boxes in front of the seller before you leave, or is that just me being paranoid?
The "visible from across the table" part is what gets me, because that means the seller had to know. Here's the thing nobody talks about though, opening the box at the table actually hurts you in most cases. Once the plastic is open they can claim you damaged it or that it was fine before, and cons are usually cash only with no paper trail, so you have zero backup. I've started just asking to see the figure out of the box before I pay, which most sellers will do if they have it displayed, and if they won't, that tells me enough.
