Serious question, I think the obsession with 'peak fiction' anime is getting out of hand. People act like you can't just enjoy a simple show anymore.

I used to watch whatever looked fun, like 'K-On!' or 'My Hero Academia', and just have a good time. Now, if you mention a popular show in a discussion, half the replies are just arguing about whether it's 'objectively' a masterpiece or trash. I saw a thread last week where someone said they liked 'Solo Leveling', and the first five comments were just people ranking it on their personal 'peak fiction' scale. It feels like we're not even talking about the shows, just trying to win some made-up argument. When did anime discussions become a competition for the smartest take? Has anyone else just gotten tired of the constant grading?

Ugh, tell me about it! It's like everyone's a critic now instead of a fan. I just want to talk about cool fights or funny moments, not defend a show's literary merit. The constant ranking sucks all the fun out of it.

Right?! It's like the whole "analyze everything to death" trend has leaked into EVERYTHING now. I see people doing the same thing with music, movies, even food at restaurants, like you can't just have a burger without a full review of the bun-to-patty ratio. This constant need to rank and criticize everything just kills the simple joy of liking something because it makes you smile.

Exactly, it turns every show into homework. Like @the_sam said, it's all about being a critic now. People watch a show just to find flaws or make a hot take, not to actually enjoy it. The whole "peak fiction" thing is just a way to feel smarter than someone else. I miss when we could just say a show was dumb fun and leave it at that. Now you have to write a whole essay to prove your taste is valid.
