That little anime shop in downtown Portland closed down
Stopped by Akiba Central last weekend and saw the 'for lease' sign in the window. Anyone know if they moved somewhere else or just shut down for good?

Yeah I saw someone on Reddit mention the owner was having health issues and decided to just close up instead of finding a buyer. It's a bummer because that place had the best selection of Ghibli merch in the city. I remember they used to do those little drawing nights in the back room too. Portland's losing a lot of its quirky little shops lately and it's making the city feel more generic every year.

Did you try reaching out to the owner directly? I had a similar thing happen with a record shop I loved in Seattle and I just found them on social media and asked if they wanted help finding a buyer. Turns out they just didn't know where to start and were overwhelmed. Most small business owners I've talked to don't realize there are brokers who handle this kind of thing for a small fee. Could be worth a shot if you're really bummed about losing the place. Maybe they'd even let a group of regulars buy the name and stock and keep the drawing nights going somehow.
