Thought I was too old for slice-of-life anime, boy was I wrong
I spent years only watching action shonen stuff because I figured anything slower would just bore me. A buddy at work kept pushing me to check out Barakamon, said it was about a calligrapher moving to an island. I finally gave in last month during a slow weekend and watched the whole thing in two days. The way it just showed daily life and small character moments hit me different than any fight scene ever did. I think what convinced me was how real the kid characters felt, like actually annoying and cute at the same time. Now I'm working through Mushishi and Non Non Biyori and wondering what else I missed. Anyone else skip a genre for years and then find out it's actually your thing?

Wait till you hit the ones that mix slice of life with something totally unexpected like Yuru Camp which is basically just girls camping but somehow it gets you emotional over a perfectly toasted marshmallow. The wild part is how these shows make you care about completely mundane stuff you'd never think twice about in real life.
