TIL that watching dubs vs subs is like comparing HIIT to steady state cardio for anime fans
I used to be a hardcore sub only guy for like 6 years. Last month my buddy convinced me to try the dub for Attack on Titan season 2 because he said the voice acting got way better. I laughed at him at first but then I actually gave it a shot. The dub cast put in work, the timing was smoother, and I didn't miss any of the action scenes reading subtitles. Now I'm not saying dubs are always better, but for certain shows with fast dialogue or big fight sequences, it just hits different. Has anyone else switched sides on a specific anime? What show made you change your mind?

Yo I saw a YouTube video breaking down how dubs actually have better audio mixing now because studios learned from the sub complaints. The difference is real, Cowboy Bebop and FMAB both have dubs that are straight up better than the Japanese versions. DBZ too, Goku's Japanese voice is just not it for me.

Subbed myself right into a corner for years thinking I was better than everyone. Then I watched the Ghost Stories dub and realized I had been taking anime way too seriously. That show is pure chaos and the dub cast was clearly having the time of their lives. Now I just pick whatever version makes me less tired after a long shift. Dubbed Goku sounds like a grandma and I will die on that hill.
