TIL the original Sailor Moon anime cut over 30% of the manga's story

I was reading an old interview with the director from 1995 and he said the studio had to drop whole arcs to fit the TV schedule. This really changes how I see the classic anime, since everyone says it's the perfect version. Did the cuts actually make the show better or did we miss out on something better?
