Warning: I found out a crazy fact about Studio Ghibli's animation budget

I was reading a blog post from Sakugabooru last night that said Spirited Away cost about $19 million to make which is standard for Ghibli but then I saw that they used over 1,400 hand drawn cels for just one scene in Princess Mononoke. How do they even keep track of all that without a digital system?

wait, do they literally hand number each cel or just stack them in order?

Had a buddy who worked on an indie animated thing, and he said they literally hand numbered each cel with a white paint pen. @spencer_perry77 So yeah, it's not just stacking them, they actually label every single one so nothing gets out of order.
