A city inspector in Charlotte told me my 2-inch mulch rings were suffocating the trees, so I switched to a 6-inch radius of bare soil.
Has anyone else had a code official actually give solid tree care advice, or is that just a lucky break?

Last city inspector I dealt with barely looked at the work, just rubber stamped it and left. Tried to ask a question about drainage and he was already halfway out the door. Meanwhile the permit office lost my application twice, then blamed me for it. Competent ones are out there I guess, but I've got better odds at the lottery.
