Found out a mature oak can drink 50 gallons of water a day and I've been babying mine with a 5 gallon bucket
Read it in a soil science pamphlet at the county extension office in Asheville last Tuesday and just stared at my sad little watering can. Anyone else feel like a complete idiot after learning something basic like that?

Wait, 50 gallons a day? Does that mean it pulls from the soil around it and you don't even need to water a tree that size once it's happy?
