Looking back on my choice between a bucket truck and a climbing kit for my first solo job in '08

I went with the climbing gear, which meant a slower start on that big oak in Springfield but gave me a feel for the wood that a bucket never could, and I still think about that choice when I see new climbers today. Anyone have a similar story about learning the hard way on an early job?

Remember my first solo job? Tried to save money by using a rope that was basically just fancy twine. Spent more time untangling myself than actually cutting anything.

Fancy twine" is the perfect way to put it, @dakota_murphy90. I read a story once about a guy who used old clothesline for a similar job and had the same tangle mess. Sometimes the cheap option costs you more in time and hassle.

@benlewis, I had that exact problem with a 12 foot piece of nylon rope from a dollar store.
