My $400 chainsaw bar oil mistake nearly ruined my saw before winter

Used cheap bar oil from the hardware store for 3 months on my Stihl MS261. It gummed up the oiler port and the bar started smoking bad in November. Cost me $400 for a new bar and clutch cover at a shop in Portland. Anyone else stick to brand oil even if it costs double?

Damn, my buddy just burned out his Husqvarna the same way. Cheap oil ain't worth it.
