Pro tip: That older climber told me to tie my flip line a different way

Ngl, I thought he was just being old school and ignored him. 3 weeks later I slipped on a wet branch near Portland and my line didn't hold right. Had a 15 foot fall that broke my ankle. Anyone else had advice from a senior guy that saved them?

Learned that lesson the hard way myself. Old guys have seen enough mistakes to know what actually works.

So what kind of things have you learned from an old timer that actually saved you time or money? @cameron_webb, I'm curious if there's a specific example that comes to mind. I've seen plenty of younger guys brush off advice from experienced workers, only to end up redoing the same job twice. It's frustrating because those old boys usually have a reason for doing things their way. They've been around long enough to know which shortcuts work and which ones will get you in trouble.
