Rescued a failing crane removal job in Atlanta last August

I got called in to help on a job where another crew tried to take down a 70 foot oak in a tight backyard. They had the wrong rigging setup and the tree started splitting halfway through the cut. The homeowner was standing on her back porch watching, which made it worse. I stopped the work, rerigged with a sling higher up, and made three more relief cuts to release the tension. We got it down safely but it took an extra 4 hours and cost the crew a lot of time and money. Has anyone else had to step into a job that was already going bad like this?

70 foot oak in a tight backyard with the homeowner watching from the porch? That's a nightmare I wouldn't wish on anyone lol. The fact she was standing there while the tree started splitting is just insane to me, could've been a total disaster. You did the right thing stepping in and rerigging higher up, glad you got it down safe.

Yeah, homeowners watching always makes me nervous. They don't realize how fast things can go wrong until it's too late. You ever have one try to give you advice mid-rig?
