Spent $450 on a battery powered top handle saw. Regret it every day.

Bought a brand name electric top handle 6 months ago for light pruning work. Battery dies after 45 minutes. Takes 2 hours to charge. Carrying 3 batteries now just to finish a single job. My old Stihl 201T never let me down for 8 years straight. Anyone else go electric and switch back to gas?

450 bucks for a saw that gives you 45 minutes sounds like a bad trade to me. @ryanj60, you say it's fine for a few quick cuts, but my neighbor bought one of those battery pole saws for his apple trees and same story. He's out there swapping batteries more than cutting. Gas might be loud and heavy, but it doesn't quit on you mid-branch. If the job takes more than 10 minutes, electric feels like a toy.

45 minutes of run time on a single charge sounds about right for those saws, even with a big battery. The real issue isn't the saw itself, it's that you're comparing it to a pro-grade gas saw that was built for heavy daily use. Those little electric saws are fine for a few quick cuts around the yard, not for powering through a whole job.
