That fancy tree climber harness I was skeptical about actually saved my back

I spent 2 years using a basic saddle from Home Depot because I thought the expensive ones were just marketing hype. Then last spring in Nashville I borrowed a buddy's Ergovation for a 3-day oak removal and my hips didn't ache once. Has anyone else found a piece of gear they resisted that turned out to be worth every penny?

I actually had the opposite experience with a fancy Petzl harness I bought after hearing all the hype. Used it for maybe 20 removals and my hips were killing me by the end of every climb. Switched back to my old weaver saddle and the pain went away. Think people just buy the name brand and convince themselves it's better.

@emmam67 people just get way too hung up on gear like it's life or death. It's a harness, not a spaceship.
