That week in July when 9 of my 12 oak removals had hidden metal, cost me 3 chains and half a day
Two summers back I was doing removals on a block in Lawrence, Kansas, and 9 out of 12 oaks had fence staples, nails, or old clothesline hooks buried in the trunks. I went through 3 chains in 4 days, which never happens, and one saw kicked back hard enough to make me step off the cut. Now I swing a cheap pinpointer around every trunk before the first cut, takes 30 seconds and has saved me at least 2 chains since. Anybody else seeing way more hidden metal in yard trees, or is it just the old neighborhoods here?
